4 Ways to De-Stress After a Divorce

de-stress after your divorce

It is no secret that divorces are stressful. They can be emotionally taxing as well as financially straining on everyone involved. When you are going through a difficult divorce, you need to take the time to de-stress and invest in yourself. Think of your divorce as a type of rebirth in which you strive to find your new single identity. Here are a few great ideas to get you started on your post-divorce self-discovery

1. Exercise with a Group

Exercise is proven to reduce stress and release feel-good endorphins that make you feel happier. Keeping active by joining a group can also allow you to feel connected to others. You may even meet some friends along the way that may be in similar circumstances. If you aren’t ready to dive into any social settings quite yet, exercising by yourself is an excellent option for your health. Plus, when you feel ready to date again, you will be in great shape!

2. Find a Hobby

Staying focused on things other than your divorce is important. If you find that you have some down time in the evenings, you may want to pick up a hobby. Art-based hobbies like sketching, drawing, painting or even coloring can be very soothing. Book clubs, sports, or clubs can also be great options to keep you engaged and relaxed.

3. Volunteer for a Non-Profit

Helping others is a productive way to de-stress. Volunteer at your local food bank, shelter, or other non-profit that interests you. When you do something to improve the lives of those less fortunate, you may be able to gain perspective on your life.

4. Treat Yourself

If you are feeling a bit tense, treat yourself to a day out. Get a massage, eat at your favorite restaurant, or purchase a new piece of clothing. Sometimes indulging a bit can be that little boost you need to start feeling more confident.

If you are considering divorce, contact the mediators at San Diego Family Mediation Center. Mediation is a much less-stressful option when compared to litigation. Call (858) 736-2411 for more information.
