WHAT IS MEDIATION?

Mediation is a cooperative, problem-solving process in which the goal is for the two parties to reach an agreement about all of the issues that must be resolved in order to obtain a divorce. It is a process where the two parties are the decision makers, not the mediator and not attorneys. The mediator’s job is to facilitate the process and to assist the parties in understanding all of the information that that they must look at, in order to make informed decisions. Further, the mediator ensures that each party understand the other parties feelings regarding each issue, that both parties’ and their children’s needs and interests are met and that all agreements made are mutually satisfactory to all parties involved.
